CASE STUDY
Bespoke Loft Space Storage
Background
Loft spaces with their sloping ceiling lines and dark corners pose problems when looking to maximise useable storage space. Small, low doors often give access to the further reaches of the eaves - these must be incorporated into any design.
Challenge
The client here called to ask what could be done to turn the untidy temporary storage arrangement into a permanently ordered bedroom.
The three "before" photos immediately below illustrate the room's difficulties, and the subsequent images show how they were overcome.
Result
The need for angled wardrobes is common enough in a loft room and here also the position of the two doors to the eaves complicated the design. This resulted in an extra-deep section of wardrobe to incorporate one and the introduction of an easily-moveable cabinet so as not to block the other. The recess under the dormer window lent itself perfectly to a built-in chest.
